NPC CM addressees Colombo leaders at Vazhalaay in Jaffna
Northern Province Chief Minister Justice C.V. Wigneswaran on Monday urged the Sri Lankan government to address the issue of Land and Property based on well-established international principles and rights as outlined in the Pinheiro Principles on Housing and Property Restitution for Refugees and Displaced Persons, Geneva Conventions and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Sri Lanka: Put war criminals behind bars
Why this is important
On the 4th August 2006, in the midst of civil war, many civilians, including 17 aid workers of Action against Hunger (ACF), were killed in the town of Muttur, in Sri Lanka. Tragically, our 17 colleagues were executed in our office, brought to their knees and shot a bullet in the head. This massacre is not only the most dramatic crime ever committed against humanitarians; it also qualifies as one of the most serious act: a war crime.None of the three national investigations launched in Sri Lanka since 2006 came to an answer. The investigations were plagued with obstruction, interference of politics in the judiciary, lack of transparency and independence, and procedural irregularities. It is now time to ask for justice by opening an international and independent UN investigation. We must act now! Only a massive citizen mobilization can force the Sri Lankan authorities to be accountable for the horrors of the conflict. We have this opportunity today!
The Human Rights Council of the United Nations will examine the human rights records of Sri Lanka on the 1st of November, in Geneva. In this time of national reconciliation in Sri Lanka, following 26 years of civil war and 100,000 dead, it is our last chance for this war crime not to be forgotten totally. We call upon the members of the United Nations to put an end to impunity. For an UN independent investigation to be finally opened, sign this petition and share with your loved ones. Demand justice!
Our petition will be handed over to the President of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations on 22nd of October.

Opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe said Military forces fail to take action against the grease devil in North and East.
Leader made this announcement when addressing the parliament today.
Other parliamentarians point out that Opposition leader inform the parliament on the activities of the grease devils in the North and East on August 23rd, and this was the second time where leader speaks about the same issue.
By informing the parliament they hoped that the government would take necessary steps this regard but government fail to do so due to these problems of the grease devils rose day today and tense situation raised in the Jaffna district.
Several incidents took place on the August 30th at Kondavil area as also in the same day night another incident of grease devil occurs in the Thirunalvelli area in Jaffna district.
Due to these incident people in the Jaffna district are force to lead fearful life in their home town.
At present more than 50,000 Forces are been deployed in the Jaffna district and they are providing 24 hours security services to the shops in the Jaffna town.
20-30 areas are been identified as the high security zones.
In such situation Army is has enough facilities and the power to catch the grease devils acting in the province. But government is not interested to take action against the secrete man and the grease devils because government knows the purpose of these activities.
Ranil Wickramasinghe questioned the Prime Minister on the activities of the government against the grease devils and Secrete man I the Northern Province.
Mr.Wicramasinghe also said lands which come under the high security zones should be hand over to the respective land owners because its need to evacuate the high security zones in the Jaffna district due to the cancellation of the state of emergency from the country.

srilanka army made terror unleashed in Jaffna after public unmasks ‘grease devils’
Occupying Sri Lanka Army entered into houses at Naavaan-thu’rai in Jaffna city Monday night, dragged out hundreds of youth and children and tortured them in their camps during the night, following public in Naavanthu’rai on Monday identifying the ‘grease devils’ as SLA soldiers. Many houses were destroyed and plundered by the SL soldiers. On Monday when five ‘grease devils’ entered into a house at Naavaanthu’rai and when the public chased them, the intruders escaped by entering into a nearby SL Army camp. Identifying the intruders as SLA soldiers, the public waged a protest in front of the camp demanding the arrest of the intruders by SL police. The angry public pelted stones at the camp. The SL Army in a planned revenge terrorised the residents during the night.
On Tuesday morning the SL police produced the youths taken away by the SL Army in the courts with complaints that they were behaving unruly.
The youths were found with injuries caused by SLA assault and torture.
About 25 of them were admitted in hospitals after a court order. Many more need medical treatment, the victims said.
The assault and torture took place both at the SL Army camp and at the SL police station, the youth victims further said.
Besides causing damages to houses, the SL Army plundered money and valuables worthy of several lakhs, the residents said.
Streets and buildings were found abandoned in Naavaanthu’rai on Tuesday.
Naavaanthu’rai, located about 3 km from the heart of Jaffna city is a fishing suburb.
The attitude behind the incident only reiterates why Sinhalese and Tamils cannot make a single country, responded a Catholic priest of the area.
A similar incident was also reported from Mallaakam in Valikaamam part of the Jaffna peninsula on Monday.
The ‘grease devil’ is a terror formula that grips Tamils and Muslims in the north and east of the island.
Assailants applying grease on their face attack especially the women, sometimes grievously.
The attacks have caused much tension not only in all the districts of the north and east, but also in the up-country and in Puththa’lam where Tamils and Muslims live in concentration.
After such attacks the SL Army is brought into the areas to establish camps in the guise of providing ‘security’.
The public has long been suspecting that the occupying SL forces for the attacks as in many of the incidents the attackers used to escape by getting into the camps of the occupying forces.
On Monday at Naavanthu’rai in Jaffna the culprits responsible for such attacks were clearly identified as occupying SLA soldiers.
In another incident at Vathiri in Vadamaraadchi, Jaffna, a ‘grease devil’ caught by the public on Monday night was found to be a Sinhala soldier of the intelligence unit.
The ultimate anger of the public turns towards India, USA and China that continue to ‘grease’ the genocidal military machinery in the island.

Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields screened in New Zealand parliament
BBC Channel 4’s documentary Sri Lanka: The Killing Fields was screened in the New Zealand parliament Tuesday for members of the parliament and staff of the political parties. Green Party MP Keith Locke, Labour Party MP Maryan Street and National Party MP Jackie Blue were co-sponsors of the show. The Sri Lanka High Commission and some supporters in the Sri Lankan community in New Zealand tried to stop the screening without success.
MPs and staff from four parties attended the show. They included Mana Party leader Hone Harawira and Green Party co-leader Russel Norman.
Green MP Keith Locke said the audience left the screening silent and stunned by the horrific scenes in the film.
There was a feeling among those present that something to be done to bring those responsible to account, news sources in New Zealand said.
